we believe in peace of mind through preparedness.
We started this company with one goal: to help everyday people, families, and communities get ready for the unexpected, without fear, fluff, or overpriced gimmicks.
Founded by Bruce Fischer in Tucson, Arizona, Go Bag USA was born out of a simple but powerful idea: every household should have the right gear ready to go, just in case. Whether it’s a wildfire evacuation, a power outage, a flash flood, or a cross-country road trip gone sideways, the right supplies can make all the difference, and you shouldn’t have to figure it out on your own.
That’s why we do the packing for you.
Our go bags are hand-assembled in the U.S.A. and built with real-world emergencies in mind. We’ve spent years sourcing high-quality, reliable gear — not the kind that looks good on Instagram, but the kind that actually works when you need it most. Each Go Bag comes ready to use, with space to personalize it for your needs. No two families are the same, and your emergency plan shouldn’t be either.
We’re proud to support nonprofits, schools, first responders, and government agencies across the country with bulk and custom solutions. But at our core, we’re here for the individual: the parent, the traveler, the planner, the protector. This isn’t about fear. It’s about taking care of the people you love.
Our Story
Once Upon a Time In the West…
Several decades ago, Bruce Fischer spent 37 days hiking a 237 mile section of the Pacific Crest Trail. It wasn’t his first time on the trail, but one day’s decision turned into an experience he’d never forget. Normally a middle-of-the-pack hiker, he set out ahead without carrying any of the group’s maps, and accidentally took a wrong turn. Within an hour, he knew he was lost.
The group had split their gear among all the members, so Bruce had some essentials, like a stove, but not fuel. Many other items were scattered across different packs.
Remembering a book he had co-published in the past about keeping calm in the outdoors, Bruce slowed his thoughts, knowing panic would only make things worse. Still, hours of backtracking and even more wrong turns left him bushwhacking through rough terrain, completely out of breath when he finally reached other hikers who could guide him back. By then, he understood just how easily a recreational outing could turn into a dangerous situation, especially without the right equipment on hand.
That lesson stayed with him. Over time, Bruce began carefully collecting, comparing, and testing gear: first for himself, then for friends and family. He refined his kits to cover not just the basics, but also the overlooked items that can make a critical difference in comfort and safety.
What started as a personal preparedness project eventually became Go Bag USA: a company dedicated to making readiness simple, practical, and accessible for everyone. Today, each Go Bag is built on the same principle Bruce learned on that trail: that being prepared isn’t about expecting the worst, it’s being ready for whatever comes your way.

Ron Stauffer
Webmaster
Ron is the Webmaster for Go Bag USA, combining his love for the outdoors with his expertise in building and managing digital platforms. Born in California, raised in Colorado, and now living in Arizona, Ron has explored beaches, rivers, lakes, mountains, islands, and deserts all over the Western Hemisphere (always with his own version of a “go bag” close at hand).
A husband and father of five, Ron travels widely as a scuba diver, exploring sites from the US Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Grenada, and Honduras to the Florida Keys and the kelp forests at Catalina Island. His adventures have included hang gliding, hot air ballooning, canoeing, rafting, snorkeling, and more.
The importance of emergency preparedness was driven home during a 15-day canoe trek through the mountains of British Columbia, where glacier-fed rivers made hypothermia a constant threat. Every item had to be carefully portaged in waterproof drums, as the lack of electricity and phone service made a quick rescue nearly impossible.
Having lived in both the frozen Rocky Mountains and the scorching Sonoran Desert, Ron understands how quickly conditions can turn dangerous — whether from icy roads, triple-digit heat, or sudden storms. His experience fuels his belief in preparedness as a way of life, whether packing survival gear for the backcountry or keeping his laptop ready to work from airports, beaches, and buses through the jungles of Central America.

James Alfred Thomas
Research & Development
James was born in and raised in Sacramento California. His passion for understanding the atmosphere grew early in his childhood while traveling across the United States with his parents during the stormy spring and summer months. The shapes of the clouds, lightning, hail, and wind all fascinated him. Throughout high school, James was determined to be accepted by colleges that offered degrees in meteorology.
After graduating on the Dean’s list with a Bachelor of Meteorology from San Jose State, James had aspirations to chase and capture (by means of photography) what most people run from… tornadoes. For the next several years during the month of May, he, along with several of his close meteorology pals would meet in the Great Plains. Their mornings would consist of analyzing severe weather patterns and reading technical discussions from the Storm Prediction Center. By late morning, the hunt was on. These trips would span over several states and cover thousands of miles.
James bore witness to enormous dust storms that lowered visibility to a few feet, hail large enough to destroy windshields, flash floods that nearly swept his car down river, being temporarily blinded while he drove through flying tumbleweed, gazed at hanging mammatus clouds that filled the horizon, lightning that snaked across the upper reaches of the troposphere, and of course a couple of nearby tornadoes.
Those experiences taught him the importance of being prepared for whatever curveball nature throws. He is involved in the selection of the various items in each of the Go Bags.
James received the 2018 National Weather Service Isaac M. Cline National Award for Meteorology
